During the employment at Synergraphic Design (2003-2007) my exhibition practice continued with fervor alongside the ‘day job’. During the day I designed, developed and made commissioned works for Synergraphic’s clients, then during the evenings and weekends I worked in my home/studio to create personal artworks for exhibition.
ot having an extensive amount of equipment in my Singaporean studio meant I had to ‘make do’ with what I had and so out of necessity I began to take a more experimental approach to my arts practice, working with mixed media and found objects. I tended to install my artworks on the wall, rather than on the plinth as i had done before. I worked with transient and temporal materials using the skills and techniques acquired as a glass artist applied to other media.
I started to work with chocolate, soap and wax – all super cooled liquids like glass. My kitchen was right next to the glass studio so crossovers and infusions of techniques and concepts were created. This period was most creative as the day job paid for the experimental development of my personal practice.
However, after working within a corporation for 4 years it was time to return to my own business and step again into the genre of self-employment. I decided to focus on commission projects that interested me most, large scale creative works that required a hands on research and development approach. I spent time and effort on the aesthetic and quality, rather than only having eyes for the budget.
In 2008 I founded my own company Art Glass Solutions Pvt Ltd with Dominic Fonde and Gopinath. We worked on developing ideas, samples and objects, securing a number of small, medium and large commissioned projects and within a few years we had achieved a number of sizable installations with Singapore and China.
Displayed here are images of medium sized commissions undertaken since starting Art Glass Solustions in 2008:-
